About Us

Founded in 1986 by James Mitchell, a third-generation Tuscaloosa native and certified arborist, our company started with one truck and a commitment to keeping West Alabama families safe. Today, we’re still family-owned—now run by James’s son, Mike Mitchell (ISA Certified Arborist #SO-5847)—operating six specialized trucks and employing twelve certified arborists who live right here in Tuscaloosa County.

We’re not a national franchise sending crews from Birmingham. We’re your neighbors, coaching Little League at Sokol Park, shopping at Publix on McFarland, and dealing with the same storms that threaten your trees.

1986 – James Mitchell, a certified arborist and third-generation Tuscaloosa resident, founded our company with a single truck and a vision: provide professional tree care that keeps families safe without cutting corners on quality or safety.

1998 – Became members of the Tree Care Industry Association (TCIA), committing to the highest industry standards and continuing education for our growing team.

2011 – When the devastating April 27 tornado struck Tuscaloosa, our crews worked around the clock for weeks, responding to hundreds of emergency calls and helping our community recover from catastrophic tree damage.

2016 – Mike Mitchell, James’s son and ISA Certified Arborist, took over daily operations, bringing 22 years of hands-on experience and a commitment to continuing his father’s legacy of excellence.

Today – We operate six specialized trucks, employ twelve ISA Certified Arborists, and serve thousands of Tuscaloosa families with the same values that started our company 38 years ago: safety first, honest pricing, and professional results.

We know every neighborhood from Jack Warner Parkway to Lake Tuscaloosa. We understand every native species from Southern live oaks to sweetgums. We’ve weathered every challenge from Alabama’s tornado season to summer thunderstorms.

38 years in Tuscaloosa means:

  • We know which trees thrive in Tuscaloosa’s clay soils
  • We understand local weather patterns and storm risks
  • We’re familiar with city tree ordinances and permit requirements
  • We’ve built relationships with Alabama Power and local contractors
  • We remember the April 27 tornado and learned critical lessons about emergency response

Every arborist on our team is ISA Certified, licensed with the State of Alabama (License #AL-TS-8847), and fully insured with $2 million general liability and $1 million workers’ compensation coverage—standards that define professional tree care for families who value safety, reliability, and expertise.

Our credentials:

  • ISA Certified Arborists on every crew
  • Alabama Tree Service License #AL-TS-8847
  • TCIA member since 1998
  • OSHA-compliant safety procedures
  • Continuing education requirements are exceeded annually

We’ve operated 14 years without a recordable accident—a safety record we’re incredibly proud of. This doesn’t happen by chance. It happens through:

  • Daily safety briefings before every job
  • OSHA-compliant equipment and procedures
  • Two-person minimum crews for all tree work
  • Regular equipment inspections and maintenance
  • Ongoing safety training for all team members
  • Ground protection and property safeguards on every job

When you hire us, you’re hiring a team that goes home safe every night—and keeps your property safe in the process.

We provide detailed written estimates within 24 hours showing exactly what work will be performed, what equipment will be used, the timeline for completion, and the total cost broken down by service.

No hidden fees for:

  • “Difficult access”
  • “Unexpected complications”
  • “Additional cleanup”
  • “Premium equipment”

What we quote is what you pay, period. If conditions change significantly during work (we discover internal rot, root systems more extensive than visible), we discuss it with you before proceeding—you approve any additional costs.

Most companies claim “24/7 emergency service” but send you to voicemail. Our emergency hotline (205-XXX-XXXX) is answered 24/7/365 by a real person—a crew member who can dispatch immediately, not an answering service in another state.

Average response times:

  • Downtown Tuscaloosa/Northport: 45-90 minutes
  • Cottondale/Brookwood: 90-120 minutes
  • Coaling/Outer areas: 2-3 hours

We’ve responded to midnight tornadoes, 3 AM ice storm damage, and Sunday afternoon thunderstorm emergencies. When your family’s safety is at risk, we don’t make you wait.
